Roundhay Doughnut
The Roundhay Doughnut identifies what we are doing, what we can do better and created a gap analysis for us to work towards.
What is Doughnut Economics
The book ‘Doughnut Economics’ was developed by Kate Raworth and provides a framework for sustainable development aiming to balance the needs of people with the limitations of the planet. It lays out two concentric rings: the inner ring represents the social foundation, ensuring that no one falls short on life’s essentials and the outer ring represents the ecological ceiling which must not being exceeded. The space between the two rings is the “safe and just space for humanity”. This is the area that we should all be aiming for.
What is the Roundhay Doughnut?
Through consultations with key Roundhay residents we assessed what we are doing well within our area as well as what we need to do better to improve our Doughnut. We assessed the communications, work and educational support that we provide through REAP as well as projects that we support for food, nature, economic, citizen science and rewilding. This information was fed into the Doughnut model and through this we created the Roundhay Doughnut.
Get involved with REAP and our Doughnut. Pick up one of the Doughnut Economic books that we have put in Little Libraries across the area to find out more. Find out more on the Doughnut through our leaflet.
